Tell the Biden Administration: Health Coverage Should Be in the TX Medicaid Funding Plan!
We recently discussed the three tracks we’re working on for expanding health coverage to uninsured Texas adults:
Holding our state leaders accountable for failing to pass Medicaid expansion.
Urging Congress to pass a solution for the 12 states that rejected Medicaid expansion. (Stay tuned for an exciting update soon!)
Pushing for health coverage in the state’s new Medicaid funding request for hospitals (“1115 Medicaid Waiver extension”).
We now have a critical opportunity to push for health coverage through that third track!
Health officials in the Biden administration are collecting public input on the Texas request to extend federal Medicaid funding to cover unpaid hospital bills (“uncompensated care”) and support local mental health services. Let’s make sure that health coverage is also a priority in the federal negotiations with Texas!
Before the August 30th deadline, we encourage you to tell federal health officials:
Yes, it’s important to provide the mental health funds and continue the hospital funds to cover the bills when uninsured Texans get so sick that they head to the emergency room.
AND the health care funding plan should ALSO expand health coverage so currently uninsured Texans can get healthy and stay out of the emergency room.
Earlier this summer, we were thrilled to see nearly 1,000 Texans send that message to state officials through the #SickOfItTX website. If you were one of those Texans, our friends at #SickOfItTX will forward your comments to federal officials, but you are also invited to send new comments directly to those Biden administration officials through this new action opportunity.
Thank you for staying in the fight to ensure our neighbors have the health care they need!
