Tell Congress to Increase Medicaid Funding
The next few days are key for making sure that Texans get enough support from Congress to get through this public health and economic crisis.
This week, Senate leaders unveiled a bare-bones COVID relief package that falls short of Texans' needs in many ways. Policymakers are negotiating possible changes to the plan right now — giving us a few days to push for improvements.
One of our concerns about the proposal is that Senate leaders failed to include the health care funding boost requested by 37 Texas organizations and other experts throughout the country.
Specifically, we need Congress to continue the increased federal share of Medicaid costs (FMAP) until the economy recovers and raise that federal share to a higher level.
Will you take a moment to email Senator Cornyn, Senator Cruz, and your Representative to demand an increase in Medicaid funding and other support for Texans during these hard times?
The increased health care funding is critical to providing Texans the Medicaid services we need right now.
It's also an important tool to help the Texas Legislature deal with the state's revenue shortfall without cutting health services and other support for Texans during these hard times.
With uninsured rates already soaring, we are also urging Congress to make sure that Texans who are signed up for Medicaid insurance don't start losing their health coverage during the pandemic. For example, we need to ensure Texas does not restart the policy of kicking new moms off of Medicaid insurance two months after giving birth or kicking some eligible kids off of health coverage in the middle of the year.
Thanks for raising your voice during this critical week!
