The House Passed the Extended ACA Subsidies, But the Senate Must Act

Your efforts are paying off.

After hearing from concerned voters across the country, yesterday the US House of Representatives passed a three-year extension of the enhanced financial assistance (or "enhanced premium tax credits") for people buying insurance on HealthCare.gov.

Seventeen Republicans — including Rep. Monica De La Cruz of Edinburg — voted with the Democrats to extend these Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies.

We're excited about this step forward — and we urge you to thank the lawmakers who voted for it.

The bill now goes to the US Senate, where it faces an uphill battle. In the Senate, 60 votes are required to overcome a filibuster. Senate leaders have not committed to holding a vote on the bill. However, bipartisan negotiations are underway to try to develop a solution — and the House vote puts more pressure on the Senate.

We urge you to help us build on this momentum by contacting your US Senators today and urging them to extend the ACA subsidies:

TAKE ACTION

If Congress does not extend these tax credits, which started in 2021, it's important to remember that the original ACA tax credits are still available to many people who sign up for insurance through HealthCare.gov. Thursday, January 15th is the last day to pick an insurance plan for 2026 on HealthCare.gov unless you have a "qualifying life event," such as losing health insurance or having a baby, later in the year.

Thank you for raising your voice to support our health care!
