Medicaid-Cutting Mega-Bill in Congress Would Leave 430,000 Texans Uninsured!
The U.S. House of Representatives is rushing to vote on its "mega-bill" — possibly as soon as later today — with $792 billion in Medicaid cuts and $300 billion in SNAP cuts that will take health care and food away from millions of Americans.
A new KFF report shows the health care provisions in the bills — particularly the Medicaid cuts — would increase the number of uninsured Texans by 430,000! The report says that if Congress passes that bill and also fails to extend the ACA enhanced tax credits this year, a total of 1.5 million Texans will lose their health insurance.
Other states will be hit even harder. Many of the Medicaid cuts and restrictions in the bill, including work requirements, only target states with Medicaid expansion. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that 7.6 million more Americans will be uninsured as a result of the Medicaid cuts — and a total of 8.6 million more uninsured if you include the new restrictions the bill places on the ACA.

It's especially important to contact your Representative if you live in Rep. Tony Gonzales' district (including the west side of San Antonio, Del Rio, Fort Stockton, and Uvalde) or Rep. Monica De La Cruz's district (including Seguin, Edinburg, and McAllen). They are on the short list of GOP members who have publicly raised concerns about Medicaid and SNAP cuts.
