US Senate Planning to Vote on Health Care Subsidies!
It's time to raise your voice to ensure more Texans have the insurance we need to stay healthy and avoid drowning in medical bills!
On Thursday, the US Senate is expected to vote on a proposal to extend the enhanced subsidies that help millions of Americans get health coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). If Congress fails to extend these enhanced premium tax credits before they expire at the end of the month, one million Texans could lose their health coverage!
Please contact your Senators today and urge them to vote YES on extending the health care subsidies!
We want to acknowledge that we face an uphill battle in the effort to extend these tax credits. In the Senate, it will be challenging to get the 60 votes required to overcome the filibuster. In the House of Representatives, the leadership has not indicated that it plans to even hold a vote.
If Congress does not extend these tax credits, which started in 2021, it's important to remember that the original ACA tax credits will still be available to many people who sign up for insurance through HealthCare.gov. January 15th is the last day to pick an insurance plan for 2026 on HealthCare.gov.
When the Senate votes on extending ACA subsidies on Thursday, they are also expected to vote on a new health care proposal backed by Senate leadership. It would let the subsidies expire and give individuals $1,000 to $1,500 (depending on their age) in a Health Savings Account to partially offset the higher cost of insurance. One skeptical health care expert described it as “offering people a 1-foot rope to get out of a 10-foot hole.”
Thank you for raising your voice to support our health care!
