National Report Highlights Drop in Children's Medicaid Enrollment in Texas and Other States
A new report from the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families is ringing alarm bells about the number of kids in Texas and other states who have lost Medicaid health coverage during the “unwinding” of pandemic-era Medicaid rules.
The report found that from the start of the unwinding through December 2023, 4.16 million fewer children were enrolled in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) nationwide. Texas alone accounted for more than one million of the total decline in children enrolled in Medicaid/CHIP, followed by Florida (nearly 600,000), Georgia (more than 300,000) and California (nearly 200,000).
