It’s Time for Texans to Renew Their Medicaid Coverage
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Texans with Medicaid health insurance have been able to keep their coverage without renewing it — but that rule will end on March 31, 2023.
What can enrolled Texans do to avoid losing health coverage?
If you have Medicaid insurance and may still be eligible, you should quickly:
Make sure you have access to your Medicaid account on YourTexasBenefits.com.
Create an account if you don’t have one.
If you already have an account, make sure you can log in. If necessary, reset your password to log in.
Update your Medicaid account with any changes, including mailing address, job, or family size.
You will need to respond to the renewal notice you receive from the state. Look for your renewal notice in a yellow envelope starting in late March or early April.
If you will no longer be eligible for Medicaid insurance, you may have other options:
The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is available for eligible children in families who saw a modest increase in their income.
Low-cost, high-quality insurance is available on HealthCare.Gov for eligible adults and children. Congress has reduced the price of insurance on HealthCare.Gov, with four out of five shoppers now qualifying for health insurance for less than $10 per month. Even though HealthCare.Gov “Open Enrollment” has ended, people losing Medicaid can still sign up.
Healthy Texas Women provides important health screenings and family planning services for eligible women between the ages of 18-44 who are not pregnant. (Additional services are available through Healthy Texas Women Plus during the first year after pregnancy.)
Get no-cost assistance understanding the process and your options:
Renewing Medicaid or finding other health coverage can be confusing, but community organizations are standing by to provide you with no-cost assistance renewing your health coverage or exploring new options.
Use the #SickOfItTX Get Help tool to see what options are available. This takes only a couple of minutes.
