Let's Keep Eligible Texas Kids Enrolled in Health Coverage!

It’s more than just red tape. Texas mistakenly removes eligible children from health coverage because the state’s mid-year Medicaid eligibility reviews are often inaccurate. The current annual reviews, however, accurately determine the right health coverage program for Texas children.

HB 290 by Rep. Cortez and SB 39 by Sen. Zaffirini would fix the problem.

By relying on the effective annual eligibility reviews rather than the inaccurate mid-year reviews, this legislation would make the current system more accurate. It would also reduce the uninsured rate for Texas children, support healthy kids, reduce costs per child, and reduce administrative burdens for the state, doctors, insurance companies, and families.

The legislation would keep in place the same Medicaid eligibility criteria that Texas currently uses.
