Tell Gov. Abbott: Expand Medicaid Now

As we confront the coronavirus pandemic, we're inspired to see so many Texans looking out for each other.

Many of us are trying to help by practicing social distancing and checking to see if our neighbors need us to pick up some groceries for them. Others — some of the real heroes of this moment in history — are working in our hospitals and grocery stores and the other essential services we need to get us through this pandemic.

But there is another way that YOU can be part of the solution.

You can support low-wage workers on the front lines, like home health aides or grocery store cashiers, and Texans who have been hit hardest during this crisis, like the staff from your neighborhood restaurant.

How can you help?

By calling on Governor Greg Abbott to expand Medicaid as part of the state's strategy for confronting the coronavirus pandemic and the economic crisis.

As you know, a staggering number of Texans are losing their jobs, and many others are hanging onto jobs with low wages and no insurance. To get the health care they need during this pandemic, and to help them get through this economic crisis, these Texans need health insurance.

But Texas is one of the only states where there is essentially no health insurance option for adults (except for seniors, pregnant women, and Texans with disabilities) when their income drops below the poverty level.

Governor Abbott can change that.

Like the doctors and grocery store employees, the Governor can help Texans get through these tough times. He can expand Medicaid.

By doing so, he can provide an insurance option to more than a million uninsured Texans and, as the economy slumps, inject up to $10 billion in federal funding into Texas communities.

Thank you for looking out for your fellow Texans and urging Governor Abbott to expand Medicaid!
