Call the TX House Today About Moms' Health Coverage

There's a huge vote on health coverage coming up at the Texas Legislature today!

State leaders nearly killed off HB 744, a bill to support healthy moms and babies, by delaying a vote on it for so long.

But, thanks to those lawmakers and supporters who have been fighting for health care throughout this session, the Texas House gave preliminary approval to HB 744 minutes before a key midnight deadline last night.

The bill would implement the top recommendation from the state's Maternal Mortality Task Force, allowing low-income moms to maintain their Medicaid insurance for 12 months after giving birth. Under current state policy, Medicaid for moms cuts off two months after delivery, leaving many Texas moms with limited health services during this critical time.

Now — before midnight tonight — the Texas House must vote on "third reading" to pass the bill and send it to the Senate for their consideration. Today's vote could be close!

Please call your Representative at the Texas Legislature NOW and urge him or her to vote for HB 744 by Rep. Toni Rose today to support healthy moms and healthy babies.

Let your Representative know that you are watching to see if they vote for health care or if they use their vote — or the clock — to kill off this and other critical health care bills.

Thank you for continuing to stand with us and so many Texas families as we fight for health care in the home stretch of the legislative session!
