TX Leaders a Step Closer to Taking our Health Care Protections
While the nation was watching the impeachment debate yesterday, Texas leaders got one step closer to eliminating health care protections and benefits that Texans enjoy under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a ruling against the ACA's individual mandate, sending the case back to a lower court. The ACA is still in place for 2020, but the legal process could culminate with the courts striking down the ACA soon after the November elections.
The health care lawsuit is led by the Texas Attorney General with the backing of other state leaders and President Trump. They have made clear — and reiterated yesterday— that their goal is to eliminate the entirety of the ACA.
As Texans, we think it's appalling that our state leaders are attacking our health care. We condemn the lawsuit and urge the Attorney General to drop it.
The impact of the health care repeal lawsuit could be devastating for Texans.
As the Center for Public Policy Priorities said in a statement yesterday, "If courts ultimately strike down the Affordable Care Act, 1.7 million Texans would lose their health care coverage and people with pre-existing conditions – like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and asthma — would lose the strong protections they have today." Here are more details on the stakes for Texas.
Instead of working to cut health care benefits, Texas leaders should be working to reduce the state's worst-in-the-nation uninsured rate for kids and adults.

Thanks for fighting back to protect our health care!
