What a Day! If You Missed it, You Can Still Help

Hours before the sun came up on Thursday, hundreds of Texans like Juanita were out of bed and on their way to the state Capitol.

Thanks to her and all of you who came to the Capitol or took action online, the Legislature heard loud and clear that you want them to put politics aside and take the Medicaid expansion funding intended to cover uninsured Texas workers.

You can take a look back on the day by checking out:

  • Photos on our Facebook page;

  • Pictures, articles, and chatter on our Twitter page (even if you don't have a Twitter account); and

  • This Texas Public Radio story, one of several news stories about the doctors, business leaders, pastors, uninsured Texans, and others who came to the Capitol to push for expanded health coverage.

Hundreds of people who couldn't join us on the Capitol steps or in meetings with legislators took action online to support the cause.

You can still email your legislator using our quick form at http://texaswellandhealthy.org/action/.

In addition to the bills legislators have filed to enact a straight Medicaid expansion, late last week Representative Garnet Coleman and Senator Jose Rodriguez introduced legislation to develop a more conservative plan to accept new federal Medicaid funding and close the Coverage Gap, as other red states have done.

We're pleased to see multiple solutions on the table, and we'll be sure to keep you updated as the legislative process moves along.
