Fall has always been a time of big changes. School starts again, the weather gets cooler, and the leaves begin to change colors. Well, maybe not all those things happen in Texas, but at least we know they do in other parts of the country. One thing for certain that will take place in each and every state Oct. 1^st is the opening of the Health Insurance Marketplaces, a part of the new health care law which will give millions of Americans the opportunity to buy quality, affordable health insurance.

Various events are happening across Texas in the next couple of days to inform and prepare Texans for upcoming health care changes. Take advantage of these opportunities to educate yourself and your community on getting health coverage!

• Get Covered America is ramping up its efforts this weekend to inform Texans about new health coverage options that will soon be available to them. The Get the Word Out Weekend is a great way to let your friends and neighbors know about the new health insurance options available this fall. See below for opportunities in your area to get involved. Also tune in to Univision tonight, with the Texas Organizing Project (TOP), at 5 and 6 p.m. to learn more about what’s coming for Texans.

• CDF-Texas, TOP, UH Center for Children Law & Policy, and Enroll America's Get Covered America campaign are teaming up to host a public forum on Saturday, September 7, Healthcare in a Changing Landscape. Health and Human Services Regional Director Marjorie McColl Petty is the keynote speaker, and health care stakeholders and consumers are welcome. • The Dallas Democratic Forum is presenting a panel discussion, “The Health Care Exchanges: Why Should They Matter to Me,” on September 9^th at 11:30 a.m. Visit our events pages between now and the RSVP deadline of Friday for more information.
