The Election Means Greater Health Security for Millions of Texans

Breathe a sigh of relief. The president’s re-election means greater health security for millions of Texans. There are Texans who woke up this morning with assurance, finally, that no sickness or injury will bring their families to financial ruin. We are celebrating today alongside Texans like Michelle Cunningham, Kari Anne Roy, Vicki McCuistion, Jerry Fielder, and many others for whom the Affordable Care Act is a lifeline in their family.

Throughout Texas, families today have security and peace of mind that comes from knowing they and their children will have access to quality health care.

I have waited for a long time to say this, but we can now be confident that in 2014 the Affordable Care Act will be the law of the land. That means that millions of Americans, and millions of Texans who have been uninsured will be able to have the health care they need. Those of us who already have health coverage will continue to have the protections and security that keeps insurers in check and makes sure we’re getting a good value for our health insurance. These protections include coverage for preventive care as our video this week explains:

There is still a lot of work ahead of us. There are no more excuses for states like Texas: It is time to move forward with implementing the Affordable Care Act. Making sure Medicaid is available for everyone who qualifies for it under the law is a vital part of that. Our existing and newly elected leaders need to learn about the health reform law and the ways it will help our families and small businesses have greater security.

The Affordable Care Act is here to stay. It is time for Texas to get on board!
