Texas Sets HealthCare.Gov Record But Saturday is Deadline to Sign Up

We're excited to see that 1.7 million Texans — a new record for our state — signed up for insurance on HealthCare.Gov from November 1st through December 15th. That shattered the state's previous record from 2016, when it took the full open enrollment period for 1.3 million Texans to sign up.

Now we have just a few more days to keep up the momentum and make sure more Texans have the insurance they need for peace of mind, financial security, and access to comprehensive care.

This Saturday, January 15th is the last day for most people to sign up for insurance for this year on HealthCare.Gov.

Remember:

  • This year, insurance on HealthCare.Gov is more affordable than ever thanks to the additional funding Congress provided. In fact, many Texans with lower incomes are now eligible for a comprehensive health plan with a $0/month premium and low or no deductible.

  • Community organizations across the state are standing by to offer Texans free, expert help with the sign-up process. Using the Get Covered Connector, Texans can locate certified enrollment assisters at local community-based organizations who can help.

  • Insurance plans on HealthCare.Gov must include key benefits like mental health care, maternity care, prescription drug coverage, hospitalization services, and coverage for pre-existing conditions. Plans outside HealthCare.Gov do not have to offer the same protections or financial help.

  • Texans also have more health plan options through HealthCare.Gov than in the past. Fifteen insurers are in the Texas Marketplace for 2022, up from 10 the year prior.
