TX Leaders Failed on Health Care. Help Push Congress to Step In!

During the recent Texas legislative session, state leaders shot down efforts to bring home our federal tax dollars and address the health care needs of 1.4 million uninsured Texans.

We’re outraged that state leaders are so out of touch with the state’s health care needs — and out of touch with Texas voters. A recent poll shows that 67% of Texans, including 50% of Republicans, support Medicaid expansion.

But we still have at least three potential paths for implementing Medicaid expansion or an alternative health coverage solution in Texas — especially if you’ll take a moment today to help out.

First path: Pass a federal fix.

There are multiple ways that Congress could design a health coverage solution for Texas and the 11 other states that have rejected Medicaid expansion. And we’re excited to hear that Congressional leaders want to include a solution in their $3.5 billion budget reconciliation package! But we need your help to make sure it happens:

Second path: Hold our state leaders accountable!

Let’s keep up the pressure, push them to see the light, and make sure health care is a priority for Texas leaders during the 2023 legislative session.

Third path: Include a solution in the state’s Medicaid funding request.

With your help, we’re working to get a health coverage solution included in the health care funding plan (“1115 Waiver extension”) that Texas health officials negotiate with the Biden administration. In fact, nearly 1,000 Texans submitted comments to stateleaders urging them to include a health coverage solution in the state’s request for Medicaid funding for hospitals. Later this summer, we’ll get another chance to raise our voices when federal officials collect public input on the funding request. Stay tuned for more details!

Thanks for keeping up the fight to make sure Texans get the health care we need!
