ACA Success Stories: Mason

My name is Mason, and I'm an entrepreneur and small business owner. I started a software company around six years ago, which today employs six full-time and part-time employees. Starting a new business can be both exhilarating and terrifying. As an entrepreneur, you experience the excitement of creating something new and working hard to realize your dreams, but at the same time you are taking a huge risk, putting your reputation, career, and financial future on the line. Starting a new business is risky enough without having to put your health at risk, too. By providing access to affordable healthcare, the Affordable Care Act not only helps people start companies and create jobs, but makes it possible to attract high-quality employees who might otherwise not be able to take a risk and help build a new company, out of fear of losing their access to health insurance.

I know I'm not alone. I have met many entrepreneurs who credit the ACA with their ability to take a risk, start a new business, and create new jobs in Texas. The ACA has not only provided me with coverage; it's enabled me to create jobs and opportunities for others. For that, I am very grateful.
